PORTLAND, Ore. -- Bruce Barnum was named the FCS National Coach of the Year by STATS LLC. 

Barnum led the Vikings to the best ever season at the Divison I level for Portland State. 

This was his first season has head coach after serving as the Vikings offensive coordinator for five seasons.

He was named interim head coach in November and given a five-year contract as head coach.

Portland State finished the season 9-3, beat a Pac-12 team for the first time in the program's history, and made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years.

Barnum was also named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year.
