Reporter notebook: Nuggets rout Blazers 124-98 in Game 5, take 3-2 series lead

Portland now has to win Game 6 at home and then beat the Nuggets in a winner-take-all Game 7 in Denver on Sunday if it wants to advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 124-98 Tuesday in Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven second-round NBA playoff series.

Portland now has to win Game 6 at home and then beat the Nuggets in a winner-take-all Game 7 in Denver on Sunday if it wants to advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

The Nuggets have put themselves in a good position. Since 2014, when the home team wins Game 5 in a 2-2 series, it has gone on to win the series 88% of the time (23 out of 26 series).
