Winterhawks Powerball pool winnings to be donated at amateur hockey

The Portland Winterhawks are giving fans a chance to win part of the $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot without even buying a lottery ticket.

UPDATE: Sadly, none of the tickets in the lottery pool was the jackpot winner.

Some of the tickets won small, secondary prizes, according to Lesley Dawson with the Portland Winterhawks. The money will be donated to the Winterhawks Amateur Hockey Association, which supports youth hockey in the Portland area.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks are giving fans a chance to win part of the $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot without even buying a lottery ticket.

On Wednesday night, the night of the biggest Powerball drawing in human history, the Winterhawks say they are forming the biggest Powerball pool of all time.

The Winterhawks are purchasing 1,000 Powerball tickets for Wednesday’s drawing, and giving them away to fans 18 and older during Wednesday night’s game against the Regina Pats.

If one of the tickets is a winner, the prize will be evenly split among the entrants who sign up at the game, the team says.

Fans 18 and older can sign up at a kiosk in the coliseum concourse and get a ticket for free. Valid ID is required, and each person is only allowed one entry.

“The entire country has been gripped by Powerball fever, and we want to give our fans a chance at joining in on the fun,” said Winterhawks President Doug Piper. “At $1.5 billion, we could make history with a life-changing event for our fans.”

Game tickets are available at Winterhawks.com and ticketmaster.com, the Rose Quarter box office or the team’s ticket office at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
