Baseball's back in Portland with Pickles' home opener

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Baseball returns to the city of Portland starting Friday, June 10, with the home opener for the new Portland Pickles team.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Baseball returns to the city of Portland starting Friday, June 10, with the home opener for the new Portland Pickles team.

The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Walker Stadium as the team faces the Marysville GoldSox in a Great West League matchup.

The Pickles, who field a roster of collegiate players from across the country, opened the season splitting a 6-game road trip.

The team was launched a year ago, and J.J. Altobelli, a University of Oregon baseball staffer, was named as the team's first manager.

The stadium is at SE 92nd Avenue and SE Holgate Boulevard, near the Holgate MAX station.

The team will play 33 home games between June 3, 2016 and August 11, 2016. Four of the six teams in the Great West League will be involved in post-season play, which begins August 13 and will conclude no later than August 20.

Monday thru Saturday games start at 7:05 PM, Sunday games start at 5:05 PM, with the exception of Sunday, July 3, which starts at 7:05 PM.
