Finding consensus on anything among 14 different people is rare.
But 14 college football media types all agree on this: At the halfway point of the season, the Washington Huskies are on track to make it to the College Football Playoff.
And a three of them even have the Washington State Cougars in the Rose Bowl.
In posting their weekly bowl projections, most of them expect Washington to face defending national champion Alabama in the Peach Bowl or Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Eve. Four have them facing Ohio State.
The Dawgs and Cougs are tied atop the Pac-12 North standings with a 3-0 conference record. UW is a perfect 6-0 overall while WSU is 4-2 after an inexplicable loss at home to Eastern Washington and a close loss at Boise State.
There is only one conceivable way the Huskies can get to the semifinal -- go undefeated in the Pac-12 and win the conference championship game. If they get into a crowded field of one loss teams, that loss could be fatal and may relegate them to the Rose Bowl.
And for the Huskies to reach the semis and the Cougars to reach the Rose Bowl, in the same year, there's really only one way that could happen. Both teams would need to go unbeaten all the way to the Apple Cup -- and the Huskies would need to win.
A close loss by the Cougs could keep them in the good graces of the selection committees and put them in the Rose Bowl. A blowout loss would probably land them in the Holiday or Alamo Bowl, as some others are projecting.
