PORTLAND, Ore. - Timeline of events leading up to Monday's announcement by the state attorney general that there is no credible evidence Portland Mayor Sam Adams had sexual contact with a minor.
March 24, 2005 - Portland Commissioner Sam Adams and 17-year-old Beau Breedlove, then a legislative intern, first meet at the state Capitol in Salem.
April-July 2005 - Records show regular cell phone and text message communication between Adams and Breedlove, according to the state attorney general.
April 2005 - Adams and Breedlove meet for lunch in downtown Portland. Breedlove tells investigators Adams kissed him on the way to the train station after lunch. Adams denies it, according to the attorney general.
Probable date: May 5, 2005 - Breedlove arrives at City Hall with a gift for Adams. According to the attorney general's report, Breedloves tells investigators he and Adams embraced and engaged in a long, mutual kiss on the hips. Breedloves describes it as passionate and making out, according to the report. Adams denies the kiss occurred, says he did not accept the gift, and that he told Breedlove he could not get involved with someone his age.
June 25, 2005 - Breedlove turns 18. Adams attends Breedlove's birthday party. Sometime after that, according to the attorney general's report, Adams and Breedlove schedule a Saturday evening date at Adams' residence which includes consensual sex.
September 2005 - Breedlove leaves Oregon for a job in Hawaii.
September 2007 - Willamette Week, an alternative weekly newspaper based in Portland, reports Adams met with a 17-year-old legislative aide several times in 2005 and regularly exchanged text and cell phone messages with him.
May 20, 2008 - Adams easily defeats Sho Dozono in the mayoral race.
Jan. 1, 2009 - Adams takes office.
Jan. 15, 2009 - In an interview with Willamette Week, Adams denies ever having a sexual relationship with Breedlove but said they were friends.
Jan. 19, 2009 - As Willamette Week was about to publish a report with evidence that the relationship may have been sexual, Adams issued a statement admitting it but said it was not until Breedlove had turned 18.
Jan. 21, 2009 - Oregon Attorney General John Kroger announces his office will conduct a criminal investigation into whether Adams broke any laws.
Jan. 21-22, 2009 - Breedlove is interviewed by Adams' attorney Sam Kauffman and investigator Kara Beus and provides a statement asserting that he and Adams did not engage in sexual contact or kissing at any time before his 18th birthday, contradicting his earlier statements.
February 2009 - Breedlove poses for Unzipped magazine and gives an interview in which he states a spurned lover ... tipped off the Portland media to the Adams affair. But the Attorney General's office found that Breedlove repeatedly sought to interest the media in his story after he moved back to Portland from Michigan in November 2007.
June 22, 2009 - The attorney general reports its findings.
