PORTLAND, Ore. -- Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson campaigned in Portland Thursday, five days before the election.

The New Mexico governor came to the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland and began speaking at around 6:15 p.m.

Johnson tried to appeal to voters looking for another option besides Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

"First they ignore you, then they make fun of you, then they attack you, then you win," Johnson said.

Some big names campaigned for Johnson during a pre-rally event at the hotel at 4:30 p.m. Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou headlined the pre-rally event as part of the Liberty Tour 2016.

Johnson is garnering around 5 percent of the popular vote nationally, according to FiveThirtyEight, far more than Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Johnson has less than 0.1 percent chance of winning the election.

In Oregon, both Johnson and Stein are getting about 5 percent of the vote, according to a recent KGW/Oregonian poll.
