Mount St. Helens is not erupting, the National Weather Service confirmed Sunday morning.

Strong winds from the east caused a significant amount of dust and ash to blow off the slopes of the mountain, according to the NWS.

"There has been NO volcanic eruption," the NWS emphasized in a social media post.

The ash and dust was expected to continue blowing, primarily to the west, through at least mid-afternoon Sunday, the NWS said, which will impact aviation users in that area.

"In addition, people should avoid outdoor activities immediately west of Mt St Helens as the blowing dust and ash may result in respiratory problems," the NWS said.
