An Olympia couple were among the victims killed in a tour bus crash in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula that left 12 dead and over a dozen people injured Tuesday morning.

San Hill Elementary PTA in Olympia confirmed the news on their Facebook page that their assistant principal, Jody Fritz, and her husband Andy were killed:

"As your children arrive home this afternoon they will come with some very sad news. We have had a loss in our school family. Our assistant principal, Jody Fritz, was on a family vacation in Mexico and was tragically killed in a bus crash along with her husband. Our hearts and prayers go out to their families and those children who will miss her dearly. Jason and Deb Swaser set up a grief counseling in the library for this afternoon and will continue to help guide our kids through this hard time in the new year.

Jody was full of life and laughter, she brought a presence to the school that will be greatly missed."

Olympia running club Club Oly Road Runners posted on their Facebook page they were planning a run around the lake in their honor.

"The community is arranging a run around the lake in honor of Andy and Jody Fritz this Saturday at 9 a.m. We will begin at Marathon Park. Please join us and spread the word."

The bus was carrying cruise ship passengers when it flipped over on a narrow highway in eastern Mexico. They were headed to Mayan ruins when the crash occurred.

Quintana Roo state authorities said 13 people remained hospitalized.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
