VANCOUVER, Wash. – Some residents in the Hough neighborhood say they’ve called police over mail theft. The victims said it’s been happening off and on for at least the past year, and more recently a suspected thief has been caught on camera.

Two neighbors shared video with KGW that shows the suspects, who could be the same person, attempting and successfully stealing mail.

One camera placed inside a mailbox recorded a theft.

The security cameras that captured the video were at a home at Kauffman and West McLoughlin Boulevard, and a home on West 19th Street.

One of the homeowners who shared video did not want to be identified for fear of retribution, but says he thinks the thief is the same in both videos.

“Then a few days ago our neighbor caught the same woman actually taking mail from their mailbox. So from the two sets of video I’m hoping they can track her down,” he said.

Vancouver police said they’ve had nine reports of mail theft in the neighborhood in the past few weeks. They contact the U.S. Postal Inspector.

Mail theft is a federal offense.

If you recognize the person in the video, call the Vancouver Police non-emergency number, 311.
