YACOLT, Wash. — A 17-year-old driver was killed in a crash Monday morning on an icy road in Yacolt.

Clark County emergency crews were called just after 9 a.m. to the single-vehicle crash in the 34900 block of Northeast Kelly Road.

"Upon arrival, they discovered a full-size pickup had struck a tree off the roadway, and was upside down," said Sgt Alex Schoening of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

He said the driver, whose name has not been released, was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A witness described seeing the vehicle 'fishtailing' on icy roads prior to the crash," Schoening said, adding that several wet Clark County roadways had frozen overnight.

"As a tragic reminder," he said, "we ask that drivers use extreme caution when traveling, especially during this week of freezing temperatures."
