Trial for MAX stabbing suspect Jeremy Christian to begin in 2019

The trial for Jeremy Christian, who is accused of killing two people and injuring another on a MAX train in May, is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2019.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The trial for Jeremy Christian, who is accused of killing two people and injuring another on a MAX train in May, is scheduled to begin 2019.

During a hearing on Friday, a judge decided on a later trial date due to the complexities of the case. Jury selection will start on June 24, 2019, with the trial beginning once jury selection is completed.

Last month, Christian was denied bail pending trial.

Christian has been charged with aggravated murder. Police say he stabbed three people, Ricky Best, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and Micah Fletcher, in the neck during a May 26 attack on a MAX train. Fletcher survived his serious injuries.

Detective Michele Michaels has testified that Christian inflicted 11 stab wounds in 11 seconds after the passengers confronted him about anti-Muslim comments directed at two teenage girls.

During a psychological evaluation released last week, Christian said he was on “autopilot” during the attack and wasn’t aware of his actions until he heard other passengers yelling that he was killing people.
