Good Samaritans help rescue man trapped in capsized boat

At one point, a group of good Samaritans lined up and pulled on a rope to bring the boat closer to shore.

BROOKINGS, Ore. -- A remarkable rescue was caught on camera on the Oregon Coast Wednesday morning.

An Army Corps of Engineers boat capsized near the Chetco River entrance near Brookings, in southern Oregon.

Lisa Watson saw it all and shot video of the rescue. She told KGW one person on board made it on their own but another person was trapped inside the upside down boat.

A rescuer brought a rope in from the boat to the shore. Then, a group of good Samaritans lined up and pulled until they got the boat partially out of the water.

"The community is great," Watson said. "Everyone comes together when someone needs help. It's a wonderful place to live because of that."

Rescuers then move in to save the man who was trapped. About 45 minutes after the rescue began, and while fighting crashing waves, crews pulled the victim out of the boat and got him to shore.

The extent of the man's injuries was not know but he was able to walk on his own.
