Security guard arrested for murder after Salem shooting, police say

SALEM, Ore. – Police arrested a private security guard on a charge of murder after they said he shot and killed a man in a Salem parking lot.

SALEM, Ore. – Police arrested a private security guard on a charge of murder after they said he shot and killed a man in a Salem parking lot.

The July 22 shooting was reported at 3:26 a.m. in the 3100 block of Ryan Drive Southeast.

Officers found Jose Francisco Moreno, 25, dead in a parking lot when they arrived. Gregory Weston Capwell, a private security guard, was also on scene.

Detectives arrested Capwell for murder "after an extensive investigation that included multiple interviews, review of video surveillance, and consultation with the District Attorney's Office," police said in a press release.

Police did not release any details about what led to the shooting.

Capwell, 33, is employed with Homefront Security.
