PORTLAND, Ore. -- Your options for living small in Portland, at least temporarily, are about to get a whole lot better.

A second hotel made up of tiny houses is days away from opening to the public.

What weeks ago was an empty parking lot at the corner of Northeast Glisan and 27th Avenue is now home to six tiny homes. The homes make up the Tiny Digs hotel.

"Tiny Digs is a place to showcase different styles of tiny houses," explained co-owner Allison Meyer. "You can rent by the day, by the week or by the month."

Each tiny house has its own personality. There's the Barn, the Gypsy, the Beach, the Bamboo, the Log Cabin and the Modern. All less than 150 square feet.

"You can have the urban vibe and a really unique place to stay all in one," said Meyer.

Portland became home to the first tiny house in the nation three years ago. That's when Caravan - the Tiny House Hotel opened along Northeast Alberta.

"We have had probably about 10,000 people come and stay here in the last three years," said Caravan owner Kol Peterson

Peterson says about half of the people who stay at his tiny house hotel are interested in living tiny homes full-time and want to try it out.

So what will it cost you to rent tiny?

The Caravan tiny houses will run you $145 to a $165 a night depending on the house.

You can get any house at Tiny Digs for $145 a night during the week, $155 on the weekends.

A competitive price, considering the average daily rate for Portland hotels in peak season is $216, according to Travel Portland.

Tiny Digs will be holding a grand opening party the evening of Sept. 24. It will be serving up food from Pok Pok, ice cream from Scoop and offering free tours of each of the tiny houses.
