To mark two years since a First Nations man was shot dead by a former Seattle Police officer, friends of John T. Williams will hold a march and rally Thursday.
At 1:00 p.m., the 2nd Annual Anniversary and Rally for John T. Williams will begin at Boren andHowell, then stop at the Federal Courthouse on Stewart, then move to the Seattle Center.
A rally will then take place the the John T. WilliamsMemorial Pole at the Seattle Center.
Traffic is expected to move slowly as the march moves through the city.
Williams was known as a woodcarver on the streets of downtown Seattle.
On Aug. 30, 2010, Birk, 27, saw Williams, 50, as he crossed a downtown Seattle street holding a piece of wood and the knife with a 3-inch blade. Birk ordered Williams to drop the knife and then fired several shots.
The incident was captured on Birk's police car dash cam.
Officer Ian Birk resigned from the SeattlePolice Department. Prosecutors determined he would not face criminal charges.
