Watch: Portland tree lighting ceremony

Thousands turned out to help light the tree in Pioneer Square.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The 35th annual Portland tree lighting ceremony is on Friday, Nov. 29 at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

This is a family-friendly event and all are welcome to attend.

KGW will livestream the event, in case you can't make it downtown.

Portland police said that because of the crowd size, several streets surrounding Pioneer Courthouse Square will be closed to cars  starting at 3 p.m.

Street closures during the event will be between Southwest Alder Street and Southwest Taylor Street, and Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Park Avenue. The roads will likely reopen around 8:30 p.m.

Police encourages those attending the tree lighting to take public transportation. However, the MAX platforms at Pioneer Square will be closed from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sign up for alerts at trimet.org/email and check trimet.org/alerts for updates.
