4 hospitalized at Tillamook Shilo Inn due to pest-control chemicals

According to Tillamook County Lt. Gordon McCraw, an Orkin pest-control worker spraying chemicals in a nearby room caused the people to get sick.

TILLAMOOK, Ore. – Four people were hospitalized after becoming ill at the Shilo Inn in Tillamook on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

According to Tillamook County Lt. Gordon McCraw, an Orkin pest-control worker spraying chemicals in a nearby room caused the people to get sick. The room's window was open and cross ventilation pushed the chemical smell out a door where the four people were standing.

Tillamook emergency responders received a call at 1:40 p.m. after a person passed out. Fire crews discovered what was described as a “possible chemical smell” in the main building of the hotel.

Four people were hospitalized after a possible checmical leak at the hotel.

More people who complained of health issues including nausea, vomiting and dizziness were treated on scene. Four people in total were taken to the Tillamook Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The hotel, which had 23 rooms rented at the time, was briefly evacuated, but has since reopened.
