Fred Meyer stores add extra fee for cash back

Kroger, which owns Fred Meyer, enacted the fee in other markets and Kroger-branded stores this summer.

PORTLAND, Ore — A new set of fees is being enacted at local Fred Meyer stores for shoppers who choose to get cash back with their purchases.

You'll pay an additional 50 cents for getting cash back amounts between $1 and $100, and an additional $3.50 fee if you get anywhere between $101 and $300 cash back.

"Fred Meyer makes life easier for our customers by providing a quicker and more convenient way for shoppers to withdraw cash from their bank account," a spokesperson with Fred Meyer told KGW.

In previous communications with customers, Kroger said they added the fees because "banks and other retailers [are raising] ATM fees and limiting the amount of cash back."
