Homeowner shoots intruder dead in Tigard, police say

The homeowner and suspect knew each other before the shooting, police said.

TIGARD, Ore. — A Tigard homeowner shot and killed an intruder who was trying to break into his home early Wednesday morning, police said.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Jose Luis Gonzalez Jr. and said he has no known address.

The homeowner and Gonzalez knew each other, according to police. It's unclear why Gonzalez was trying to break into the home.

The incident took at 11075 SW Sage Terrace. The homeowner initially called 911 at 7:14 a.m. to report a trespasser, police said, and said he fired at the suspect during a confrontation.

Dispatchers heard shots fired in the background. An arriving officer found Gonzalez dead.

A dispatcher said the caller reported that the suspect had been stalking him.

The homeowner is cooperating with police. Two teenagers were in the home when the shooting occurred, police said.

Police said there is no threat to the community. No one else was injured in the incident.
