BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Beaverton middle school will be closed on Friday, Nov. 22 due to asbestos concerns.

In a note to the Highland Park Middle School community, principal Curtis Semana said that on Thursday the school got results back on samples of white particles found in their gym. The particles tested positive for “Asbestos Containing Material”.

He said they are not aware of where those particles came from and an environmental consultant was doing additional testing to find the source.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are closing Highland Park Middle School Friday, Nov. 22,” Semana said. “So that TRC can perform air and dust sampling in all classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, library/media center, and offices.”

He said they expect to get the results of the tests over the weekend.
