Three dead, 3 injured in Yamhill County crash

SALEM, Ore — Three people died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Yamhill County on Monday morning.

According to Oregon State Police, the crash occurred on Highway 221 near milepost 10.5 just before noon.

Krista Ashley, 33, of Salem, was driving a Volkswagen Passat northbound when the car crossed the center line and crashed into a southbound Chevy Cruz driven by 69-year-old Susie Valdez of Salem.

Susie Valdez and her passenger, 70-year-old Robert Valdez, died in the crash.

Ashley was seriously injured and taken to a Salem hospital.

A young girl in Ashley’s car died of her injuries at a Salem hospital. Her name and age were not immediately released.

Two other passengers in Ashley’s car, including another young girl, were seriously injured.

It’s unclear what caused Ashley’s car to cross the center line. Police are investigating.

The highway was closed for over four hours after the crash. It has since reopened.
