'Somebody knows this guy': 'Doggie Door Bandit' sought in Clackamas burglary case

The suspect stole several items from a Clackamas home, including electronics and jewelry, during the April 2 burglary, investigators said.

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — Authorities are asking for help identifying a man who was caught on camera breaking into a Clackamas home through a doggie door.

The suspect stole several items from the home, including electronics and jewelry, during the April 2 burglary, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Surveillance video taken from inside the home shows the suspect looking through the window and crawling through the doggie door. He then realizes he's on camera and attempts to hide by pulling his hood tight and covering the camera with a blanket. By that point his face has been clearly captured on video.

"He did a fair amount of gymnastics to get through there," said homeowner Bruce Hollen.

The sheriff's office dubbed the man the "Doggie Door Bandit."

Investigators are hoping someone will recognize him and contact authorities.

The suspect is a black man with a medium build, between the ages of 18-25, deputies said. He was wearing a black beanie, a black hoodie with the “NBA” logo in white letters on the chest, light grey sweatpants, black shoes with white soles, and black gloves.

"We have no idea who this person is, or why he picked our house out of any other house," said Debbie Hollen.

The crime has left the Hollens shaken.

"You go from the perception of being in a safe neighborhood and a safe place in your house," Bruce Hollen said, "to trying to now walk the line between really complacent and not paranoid."

Gone are heirloom jewelry items.

"There was a pearl necklace that my grandmother had given me. So there was some sentimental pieces that are irreplaceable," Debbie Hollen said.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 503-723-4949 or submit a tip online.

"Somebody knows this guy. The video's pretty good. The image of his face is pretty good," Debbie Hollen points out.
