Beaverton HS student killed, 4 others injured in early morning Salem crash

It appears speed was “at least one of the contributing factors” in the crash, according to police.

SALEM, Ore. — A 17-year-old Beaverton boy was killed, and four teens were injured in a crash in Salem early Saturday morning.

Salem police on Monday said Alejandro Rodriguez Chavez died in the crash.

A GoFundMe page written by Chavez's sister says the Beaverton High School senior was "a sweet and kind hearted individual who was loved by those who knew him."

Authorities received reports at around 4:15 a.m. of the crash in the 6600 block of Fairway Avenue SE. Officers arrived and found a car had struck a tree.

There were five people in the car, all between the ages of 14 and 17 years old. Police said all were from the Beaverton area. 

The teens left a party in Salem shortly before the crash, according to police.

The four injured teenagers were taken to hospitals in Salem and Portland. Their names have not been released.

Families of the teens have been notified about the crash.
