A group of students received an early Christmas present Wednesday at Park Kitchen restaurant.
Through the Community Quarterback Scholarship Program, the Harrington Family Foundation annually gives four, four-year scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Oregon to continue their education in state.
The scholarship is awarded based on a combination of financial need, school success/involvement and community leadership. Each scholarship recipient is paired with a mentor in the student's field of interest, with the intent of building relationships in the community and opening doors after graduation.
For the last three years, as a fundraiser for the Harrington Family Foundation, Safeway has run the Huddle Up for Education program. This initiative gives shoppers the opportunity to donate at the check stand to help provide scholarships for these students. As a major sponsor of the Harrington Family Foundation and their Community Quarterback Scholarship Program, Safeway and the Safeway Foundation are committed to the mission of developing the next generation of leaders in the state of Oregon.
Today they shared the success of the Huddle Up program and showed their commitment to our community by presenting each of the students with a $6,000 increase in their scholarship.
