Standoff with barricaded armed suspect ends peacefully in Columbia County

A road rage incident turned into a standoff that ended peacefully in Columbia County.

GOBLE, Ore. — A standoff with a barricaded armed suspect in Columbia County ended peacefully late Tuesday night with the person in police custody.

Oregon State Police said they received a report of two people involved in a verbal "road rage" argument on Hwy 30 at milepost 45 near Rainer.

Troopers then went to the home of one of the suspects on Wasser Road, where they were confronted by an armed man. The man, identified as 37-year-old Richard J. Flores Jr., barricaded himself inside the home.

Oregon State Police requested the SWAT team to assist with the negotiation. After several hours of negotiating, Flores surrendered at around 10 p.m.

Flores was arrested on menacing, recklessly endangerment, felon possessing a firearm, reckless driving and disorderly conduct charges. He was lodged into the Columbia County Jail.
