TALENT, Ore. — A registered sex offender was arrested Monday after school staff found him hiding inside a girls locker room at a middle school in southern Oregon, police said.
The suspect, 41-year-old Curtis Bradley Stevenson, was found in possession of an iPhone and clothing police believe he stole from the locker room. Police said Stevenson, a registered sex offender who is currently out of compliance, may have been involved in similar incidents in the area.
Police said there's no evidence that Stevenson had any direct interaction with students in the locker room.
Officers responded to the school at 3:15 p.m. Monday. School staff had called police after finding Stevenson lurking inside the girls' locker room at Talent Middle School. School employees had asked him to leave the school and he complied.
Surveillance video showed that Stevenson had been inside the locker room, undetected, for an hour and a half. Staff told police that a student opened a side door to the school and let Stevenson in.
A student reported her iPhone missing from the locker room during the time in which Stevenson was inside the locker room.
At about 5:40 p.m. Monday, Stevenson was found by officers at a ranch in Ashland, and taken into custody. The stolen iPhone, as well as clothing police say they believe Stevenson stole from the school, were in his possession.
Drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and other stolen items were also found with Stevenson.
Stevenson is being held at the Jackson County Jail. He faces the following charges: two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, second-degree trespassing, possession of methamphetamine, tampering with physical evidence, and two counts of failure to register.
