PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland State University student was stabbed during an altercation at a bar near campus Thursday night.

The student, a 28-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Portland police said.

The stabbing occurred at the Cheerful Tortoise bar, 1939 SW 6th Ave., at around 8:10 p.m., according to an alert from the university.

The suspect, Shawntaviou Henderson, 27, was later taken into custody on an accusations of second-degree assault. He also violated probation for a prior conviction of manufacture of a destructive device.

Officers seized a knife they believe was used in the stabbing.
