PORTLAND, Ore. – A mother’s boyfriend has been accused of killing her 2-year-old son.

At 4:40 p.m. Monday, Portland police homicide detectives were called to assist on a case in which a 2-year-old boy was suffering from traumatic injuries. Zackariah Luda Daugherty was at Portland Adventist Medical Center at the time. He was transferred to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, where he died early Tuesday morning.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Tuesday afternoon and determined Daugherty died of homicidal violence, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police.

Detectives conducted interviews with Daugherty’s mother and her boyfriend. They arrested her boyfriend, 20-year-old Taylor Lynn Kraig. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of murder.

According to court documents, Kraig has a history of drug abuse, though he said he has not used meth, cocaine or alcohol in a year.

Kraig also said he suffers from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD and OCD, though he is not currently taking any medication for it. Kraig has discussed these disorders with a doctor but he has not been officially diagnosed.

Kraig will be arraigned Wednesday in Multnomah County Court.

Anyone with information regarding the case should contact Detective Mark Slater at 503-823-9319 or Detective Erik Kammerer at 503-823-0762.
