KELSO, Wash. — Police say a man killed the mother of his grandchild in Kelso, Washington on Friday night before fatally shooting himself.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports the shootings happened after Brittany Thuney, 31, arrived at an AM/PM gas station parking lot in the 1700 block of Allen Street at around 8 p.m. Friday.

Police say Scott Belenski, 60, drove into the lot, parked next to Thuney’s car, exited and fired several times into Thuney’s car while she was in the driver’s seat.

Belenski walked back to his car, drove to the other side of the lot and shot himself, according to police.

Belenski was the biological grandfather of Thuney’s 7-year-old child, police said. She had dropped the child off with Belenski’s son just before the killing.

The child has since been returned to Thuney's immediate family, police said.
