Police release name of man shot and killed in North Portland on Oct. 25

The medical examiner determined 53-year-old Eric Sean Medrano died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Police have identified a man who was shot and killed in North Portland on Oct. 25.

On Tuesday at 9:02 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting near North Peninsular Avenue and Columbia Boulevard. Upon arrival officers found a man, later identified as 53-year-old Eric Sean Medrano, with an apparent gunshot wound. Both officers and paramedics provided medical aid, but he died. 

The medical examiner determined that Medrano died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

Police initially said no arrests in the case have been made.

Portland Police Homicide Unit detectives have launched an investigation.

There were 88 homicides in Portland in 2021, up from 57 in 2020 and 36 in 2019, according to a police dashboard that tracks crime statistics. Portland is on pace to exceed last year's number of homicides.
