TUALATIN, Ore. – Tualatin police arrested a homeless man who they said punched a TriMet bus driver in the eye early Tuesday morning.

The confrontation started when the driver found the suspect, 24-year-old Song Sushumna Landis, asleep in a bus shelter on Southwest 65th Avenue at Borland Road and asked him to leave, police said.

Landis left, but returned to the bus while the driver was still on a break and asked if he could have a free ride. The driver refused, and Landis punched him in the eye, knocking him to the ground, according to police.

Officers found Landis a few blocks away and took him into custody. Landis faces charges including third-degree assault and interfering with public transportation.

Landis has also been banned from TriMet property.

“TriMet takes the issue of any operator assault very seriously, and we prosecute to the full extent of law anyone who assaults one of our employees,” said TriMet spokeswoman Mary Fetsch.
