DUII suspect crashes into North Portland home; passenger seriously injured

The suspect, Ronnie Lee Smith, was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail and faces charges of assault, DUII and reckless driving.

PORTLAND, Oregon — One person was seriously injured after a man crashed a car into a home in Portland's St. Johns neighborhood Tuesday night, police said.

The suspect, 29-year-old Ronnie Lee Smith, allegedly crashed through a fence and hit a house in the 8300 block of North Dickens Street. The car continued on, crashing through the back fence before smashing into a house in the 8500 block of North Charleston Avenue.

Police say boards from the fence crashed through the front windshield of the suspect's car and struck the passenger. The passenger was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Smith was lodged into the Multnomah County Jail and faces charges of assault, DUII and reckless driving.
