MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- One dog was killed and another was injured after they were shot with pellet guns on Tuesday in Milwaukie.

“There’s no excuse for what happened,” said Ramon Garcia.

Garcia says on Tuesday morning his family let their 12-year-old Chihuahua, Brownie, into their fenced backyard. A short time later, they returned to let Brownie back into the house.

“He was just laying there,” said Garcia. “There was blood on his back and rib cage.”

Brownie had been shot and killed.

“There was an entry and exit wound in the dog,” said Garcia. “Makes me worry for other dogs.”

Neighbor Shannon Courtright can relate to the Garcia’s pain. Hours after Brownie was shot, Courtright’s pit bull, Bella, was shot. She survived.

“The problem that I’m having is whoever shot the first time stuck around for six hours to shoot again,” she said.

Both families believe their dogs were shot with a pellet gun. They are not taking any chances with their other pets since the shooter has not been identified.

“We try to limit their time outside,” said Garcia. “We try to keep them in the house more now than we used to.”

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
