PORTLAND, Ore. – You’ll be getting twice as much money for depositing bottles and cans in Oregon next year.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission said the redemption value for returning beverage containers will increase from 5 cents to 10 cents on April 1, 2017.

The increase comes after a low return rate over the past two years. State law required an increase if the return rate was less than 80 percent for two consecutive years. The return rate in 2014 was 68 percent and 64 percent in 2015.

The OLCC says it has reached out to product manufacturers, beverage distributors and retail outlets to discuss labeling changes and other issues.

The following types of beverage containers under three liters are eligible to receive the 10 cent redemption beginning in April:

  • Water/Flavored Water
  • Soda Water/Mineral Water
  • Carbonated Soft Drinks
  • Beer/Malt Beverages
