These Portland-area companies are hiring workers in droves

Apple is one of 56 companies making a splash in the Portland area.

PORTLAND, Ore. — California computing giant Apple Inc. continues to grow a technical office in the Portland metro, according to the company’s jobs website.

The company has 21 technical jobs — those not related to its retail stores — listed for the Portland area. The work includes hardware and machine learning job titles and descriptions.

Last year, the company made headlines when it announced a $1 billion expansion in Austin. However, the company also noted that other offices, including Portland, would grow.

Based on the job postings, Apple is pulling from the Portland metro's deep semiconductor industry roots. Open jobs include CPU architects, system-on-chip design engineers and secure systems engineers. The company is also looking for machine learning and artificial intelligence expertise as part of its Advanced Computation Group.

In December, Apple announced a number of hiring initiatives and a Portland outpost was included:

“Apple plans to grow its employee base in regions across the United States over the next three years, expanding to over 1,000 employees in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City each, and adding hundreds of new jobs in Pittsburgh, New York, Boulder, Boston and Portland.”

Apple isn’t the only company hiring locally. A list assembled with insights from the Mac's List site that tracks area openings features several new job opportunities, as well as a compendium of companies that have sought workers throughout the year.
