PORTLAND, Ore. -- His life has come full circle.
Jim Quackenbush grew up in Seattle, in a family of performers. He started playing the piano at age 8, and his extraordinary talent took him to some of the most exclusive piano Institutes and schools in the country, including Julliard in New York.
After graduation, the rigorous classical training had taken a toll. Quackenbush said he was burned out, and his career path took a detour. He became a Portland police officer, and stepped away from music.
Fifteen years later, he’s still on the beat – but also back on the piano bench, and he has never been happier.
We hit the streets with Sgt. Jim Quackenbush for this ‘Cup of Joe.’
