Positive Parenting: Nature best way to relieve teen stress

Encouraging your teen to spend more time outside can help fight depression, poor sleep, obesity, and even substance abuse.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Between social media, friends, and school demands, teenagers have a lot to be stressed out about. 

Researchers at Temple and the University of Tennessee wanted to know how to help teenagers de-stress. They gave 179 urban teens cell phones equipped with GPS for two years, and asked them on random days what their stress levels are.

Results showed teens who spent more time in natural green spaces like parks had lower stress levels, but only if they were in nature away from home.
