PORTLAND, Ore. – TriMet will again offer free rides on New Year's Eve to help you get home safely.

TriMet service will be free after 8 p.m. and MAX trains will run until 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, according to TriMet spokesman Andrew Longeteig.

This year, TriMet also partnered with Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. New Uber riders can get a $25 discount from the posted fare for an Uber ride using the code PDXNYE on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

That’s a few dollars more than discounts Uber usually offers to new riders.

Uber said it will also donate $1 to MADD for each ride taken during the promotion.

New Year’s Day has the highest percentage of deaths related to alcohol, Yahoo reports. Data from the National Safety Council shows nearly half of all traffic deaths were related to drinking and driving.
