PORTLAND, Ore. — From food carts to fine dining, Portland enjoys a reputation as a foodie paradise.

A big contributor to Portland's dining profile is the willingness of entrepreneurs to take the risk of opening a new business. Not all succeed but some are hits with diners.

The Portland Business Journal recently asked Yelp to compile a list of area restaurants that had new pages added to its restaurant reviews since Nov. 1, 2018. It provided 40, ranked by an algorithm based on user ratings and the number of reviews.

The list covers a rich mix of world cuisines and familiar flavors — Hawaiian, Cajun, Ethiopian, New American, Indonesian and more — and food types including sushi, sandwiches, barbecue and baked goods. A few bars, coffee shops and ice cream parlors are also included.

Some of the restaurants are new locations for established businesses, such as the brick-and-mortar location on Hawthorne for popular food cart Fried Egg I'm In Love and a new Great Notion brewpub. But many may be new discoveries to Portland eaters.
