PORTLAND, Ore. – This Sunday is the second Sunday Parkways event in Portland this summer, and the 50th such event since 2008.

Nearly 10 miles of streets in North Portland, including long stretches of Ainsworth Street and Willamette Boulevard, will close to cars and be open only to cyclists and pedestrians. The route connects five parks, with plenty of activities along the way.

If the route goes past your house, the city encourages you to get involved as well -- set up a lemonade stand, pass out donuts, or at the very least offer a wave and a smile.

Several thousand people are expected to take part Sunday. Three other Parkways events are scheduled for the summer: Outer Northeast in July, Downtown/Central Eastside in August, and Northeast in September.

This Sunday’s event starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.
