BEAVERTON, Ore. — Ballet dancing is Ethan Myers' passion. The senior at Beaverton’s Arts and Communication Magnet Academy started ballet at the Oregon Ballet Theater when he was 4 years old.
“Watching the Oregon Ballet Theater’s Nutcracker really stood out to me because it was the first ballet where I was seeing the guys' massive jumps and huge turns, all that partnering, I was like well that's what I want to do,” said Meyers.
He’s done it well enough to be one of 17 students this year to earn a scholarship from the Beaverton Arts Foundation. He’ll attend Harvard in the fall, although he doesn’t know if he’ll be on campus or doing classes virtually.
“I think we're going to try to do the most normal we can," Myers said.
After graduation, he’d like to come back to Oregon and start his own dance studio dedicated to teaching at risk youth.
