'World's Best Beard' gets shaved off for charity

Madison Rowley has won two World Beard Championships, and has a large following on social media.

PORTLAND, Ore — Madison Rowley has been growing his beard for six-and-a-half years. In that time, he's won two World Beard Championships, and gained a big following on social media.

Cassidy Quinn first met Madison back in September, when he started planning a major transformation. He was going to shave his beard... for charity.

A year ago, a close childhood friend of Madison's died from an accidental drug overdose. To honor Brian, Madison chose to start a fundraiser for an organization called Shatterproof, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending the devastation addiction causes to families. With a donation, contributors got to vote on which style Madison's beard would be shaved into.

And people really connected to Madison's story. Cassidy's interview with Madison and his magnificent beard has garnered over 800,000 views on YouTube (and counting).

Madison decided the best day for the Cut for the Cause to take place was Giving Tuesday, a day following the shopping madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when we all instead focus on giving back. So on December 3, 2019, after raising $7,000 for Shatterproof, Madison's six-year-beard was finally chopped. Sarah Adams did the honors at Portland Razor Co.

Madison says he will keep his new Hungarian mustache for at least one facial hair competition. So follow him on Instagram to keep up with his facial hair, and see when and what he shaves it into next!
