Volunteers needed to help decorate Grand Floral Parade floats

"You get a better appreciation of what goes into floats,” Trudy Knowles said.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Organizers for the Grand Floral Parade need help and lots of it.

They are asking for around 40 to 50 volunteers a day for the next 3 days to help build bouquets for the floats.

"This has been an interesting year and I don't know if it's been the good weather. Us Oregonians we like to go out and play and this year we've had less volunteers,” Carla Stenberg is the Grand Floral Parade chair. “I don't know why, it's been kinda strange so we've been a little bit behind, been doing a lot of late nights."

Trudy Knowles has been volunteering for the last 20 years. She's retired and takes the week to help out in any way she can.

"I fell in love with working on the floats. It's kind of like a family," Knowles said.

She said that anyone thinking of volunteering should consider it.

"You get a better appreciation of what goes into floats,” Knowles said. “It's just a way of meeting other people throughout the city of Portland and there's many groups that come in and you get to know those people as well."

You can watch the complete Grand Floral Parade commercial-free on all of KGW's digital platforms.
