KGW earns seven regional Emmy awards

The awards recognize outstanding journalism from five states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. KGW won Overall Excellence for the third year in a row.

PORTLAND, Ore. — KGW has won seven Emmy awards from the Northwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The competition recognizes outstanding journalism in five states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. 

Among the awards was top honors for 'Overall Excellence', recognizing the innovative work of the station across all departments and functions. This is the third year in a row that KGW has won the category.

 “It is rewarding to be recognized for our work during 2021, a year filled with difficult stories, smart solutions, and inspiring people," said Steve Carter, president and general manager of KGW. "Our team focuses each day on how we can tell unique and compelling stories that make a difference and help improve the community."

The news station was also recognized for Health/Medical Long Form, Commercial Campaign, Weather Anchor, Sports Anchor, Reporter – News Single Shift and Video Journalist.  

"Every day, we know that our role and responsibility is to uncover, explain, highlight and question the important issues in our community," said KGW News Director Greg Retsinas. "It’s an honor to be recognized for our journalism. I’m proud of our team and their never-wavering commitment to innovative storytelling."

KGW is also proud to have partnered with and air the Emmy award-winning series Expressions in Black produced by Heart and Hustle Productions.
