KGW names new News Director

Greg Retsinas has been named news director at KGW, effective May 31, 2019.

PORTLAND, Ore. — KGW, TEGNA’s NBC affiliate in Portland, Oregon, announced today Greg Retsinas has been named news director, effective May 31, 2019. Retsinas had been regional digital director at TEGNA, where he managed several stations including KGW.

Retsinas was named regional digital director for TEGNA in 2018 and oversaw the digital content strategy and operations for several stations including KGW, KING in Seattle and KUSA in Denver. In addition, Retsinas also served during that time as director of digital strategy for KGW. In this role, he was chief digital content officer for the station, overseeing digital revenue strategy and digital products. Retsinas joined KGW and TEGNA in 2014 as director of digital media.

He’s uniquely qualified to lead a new era of content transformation at KGW,” said Steve Carter, president and general manager, KGW. “He’s a veteran journalist and storyteller with a passion for local news. He’s also an expert on the innovative use of technology and data to deliver our content to an evolving audience across our community.”

Prior to his current role with TEGNA, Retsinas was a reporter, bureau chief, managing editor and digital director for several media outlets across the country. His experience includes reporting for The New York Times, leading news and digital teams and launching a digital creative agency that built successful business models for media companies.

Greg graduated from Brown University in Providence, RI. He and his wife, Julie, live in Portland.
