KGW Great Food Drive sets a new record for donations

The 2019 edition of the annual drive has raised more than 2.5 million pounds of food for families in need.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The sixteenth annual KGW Great Food Drive set a new record for collecting food and cash donations for hungry families. The final tally came to 2,574,608 pounds of food donated for local families. The results were more than double the goal of one million pounds.

The KGW Great Food Drive is a major public service campaign throughout the month of March that addresses hunger issues in communities throughout Oregon and southwest Washington. Proceeds go to Oregon Food Bank which distributes the food to its network of 21 regional food banks and 1,200 food assistance sites across Oregon and Clark County, Washington.

KGW’s community-minded sponsors, Tillamook, Rivermark, Toyota and Safeway, were critical in making the campaign a success by providing drop-off locations, facilitating cash donations and supporting the PSA campaign all month which brought visibility to the issue.

“The success of the KGW Great Food Drive shows that we can make an impact on big problems when concerned citizens and companies committed to community join together,” said Steve Carter, president and general manager of KGW. “We’re grateful to our sponsors and all the individuals in our viewing area who responded to this critical need.”
