KGW is the NBC affiliate in Portland, Oregon serving Oregon and Southwest Washington. The station has been honored as station of the year by the Oregon Association of Broadcasters for 13 of the last 14 years for its community service. KGW-TV first went on the air in December, 1956. It was the first Portland television station to broadcast its local news in full high definition. Reflecting its commitment to innovation and community interaction, it opened a second high definition studio, the KGW Studio on the Square, in March 2009. Modeled after the Today Show’s studio, the KGW Studio on the Square is located in Pioneer Courthouse Square, known affectionately by Portlanders as “Portland’s Living Room.
