I walked to the falls this morning as I do most mornings with my dog, Murfee and found there had been several trees cut down along the trail that circles around the base of Latourell Falls. The trees were chopped into lengths and rolled down the hillside ending up above and in the creek which runs from the falls to the wetlands below the railroad tracks north of the Historic Columbia River Highway. This time of year is a favorite time to hike around the falls for the locals who live in the nearby village and the hundreds of visitors from all around the world. Why would the powers that be have a project of this type done when all the Spring flowers and plants are just emerging from their winter rest? It's a heartbreaking sight and infuriating situation. We aren't sure who initiated the project, but nothing was said locally before this was done.
