First thank you KGW for Airing an Episode on PKU.
There is a lot to managing Patrick's PKU.
We have use special Formulas, scales, and calculator as well as a well known book called PHE FOR THREE.
Patrick was diagnosed with PKU which runs on my family I have 4 relative's who are cousins with this condition.
It is passed.down from mother and father and it is autorecessive that means both parents must have the gene and at that one has a 50/50 chance of having a child with PKU.
Managing PKU is not cheap.
Four simple items can run you up to 100.00 dollars . We even are starting a garden for US because Patrick's need for veggies and fruits are in high demand.
Do you know how much a box of Mac and.cheese cost for our son? Try 10.00 dollars or close to it. A loaf of POPle Bread? Try $5.00 .
I think KGW needs to do a follow up on Two families.one in Oregon and one in Washington. And interview the families and how.we.cope.with the challenges of managing PKU .. Every.day we have to be exceedingly dilligant on what we we can feed and how much we can feed our son.we use records to monitor feedings.and the like .
